Go After Your Vision in 2020

Updated: Mar 4, 2020

I want to share something that will set you up for success in 2020. I learned a principle that the Lord gave to me in August of 2019. I saw much fruit in my life just from applying this principle and I want to share it with you. It’s not a formula, it’s a practical application of your faith. Let’s read Habakkuk 2:1-4:

"I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected." - Habakkuk 2:1 NKJV

"Then the LORD answered me and said: "Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it." - Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV

"For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry." - Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV

""Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith." - Habakkuk 2:4 NKJV

The instruction in verse 2, I believe, was not just for Israel at that point in time. It’s also a prophetic instruction that we can apply to our lives today. What’s the instruction? Write down the vision! Write it so big that anyone running by could read it.

Here’s how I did it. I put together a vision spreadsheet.

Before you tune out; listen! This material is worth hundreds of 💰dollars and is similar to what many coaches would charge you for. I received it for FREE from the Holy Spirit. The vision spreadsheet is very practical and easy to use. I’ll walk you through it:

What?

Write down specifically what you’re believing God for. For example, maybe in the area of your finances, you’d like to be debt free. Well, put that down on the first row of your list.

Why?

Ask yourself why you want this vision that you’ve just written down. Motive really matters to God. Check out what James 4:1-3 has to say about motives:

"Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?" - James 4:1 NKJV

"You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask." - James 4:2 NKJV

"You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." - James 4:3 NKJV

Ask amiss in this passage means “not having the right motives.” So for this group of believers, James says they didn’t receive from God because they didn’t ask Him. Or they did ask Him but they didn’t have the right motives. It’s important to search your heart and ask why you really want the vision. In asking myself this question, I discovered some things that didn’t really need to be on the list —so I got rid of them!

What if you get a greenlight from the Holy Spirit about what you’ve written down? Great! Write down the reason why you desire the goal. Better yet, is there a promise in the Word that speaks to that area of need? To use my earlier example, to see my debt paid off I would write down this scripture :

""For the LORD your God will bless you just as He promised you; you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over you." - Deuteronomy 15:6 NKJV

When I go to God and say Your word says, “I shall lend to many nations, but I shall not borrow,” now, I’ve God His attention. I’m bringing His promises into the picture—that’s why I’m confident to ask for the vision.

How?

The next row is very important when going after your vision and yet, it’s one that many people neglect. How are you going to partner with the Lord for this vision? What steps are key or necessary in order for you to step into this vision? In line with our example above, paying off debt, I may decide to setup an automatic payment to my credit card. I’m still going to need God’s help to accomplish the vision but by taking some practical steps I show the Lord that I believe His promises and I’m willing to co-labor and work with Him. There are many examples in the bible where God gave someone a promise and then gave them a practical step, or prophetic instruction to carry out.

GOD TELLS THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO GO FORWARD AND TELLS MOSES TO STRETCH OUT HIS ROD-EXODUS 14:15-16

"And the LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward." - Exodus 14:15 NKJV

""But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea." - Exodus 14:16 NKJV

ELISHA TELLS A WOMAN TO GO BORROW VESSELS-2 KINGS 4:1-6

"Then he said, "Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors--empty vessels; do not gather just a few." - 2 Kings 4:3 NKJV

""And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones."" - 2 Kings 4:4 NKJV

"So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out." - 2 Kings 4:5 NKJV

"Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another vessel." So the oil ceased." - 2 Kings 4:6 NKJV

ELISHA TO NAAMAN, GO WASH IN THE JORDAN: 2 KINGS 5:10

"And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean."" - 2 Kings 5:10 NKJV

JESUS TO A BLIND MAN, GO WASH IN THE POOL OF SILOAM-JOHN 9:6-7

"When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay." - John 9:6 NKJV

"And He said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing." - John 9:7 NKJV

Timeline?

What’s the timeline for this vision? Give yourself a rough estimate of when you’d like to see this come to pass. For example, you could say 6 months from today I want my credit card bills all paid off.

Progress?

Be accountable! Periodically check the vision spreadsheet and make note of how things are going and the progress you see happening in that area.

That’s it!

Conclusion

I want you to place this vision spreadsheet somewhere you’ll see it often so you’ll remember to pray about it. Talk to God often about the items on your vision spreadsheet and speak life over it. Be sure to stay accountable by revisiting the progress section and recording what you see the Lord doing.

As the Lord moves for you in each item, get excited and give Him thanks—He’ll do even more!

I’m excited to hear what great things the Lord will do with you, please send me your testimonies.
